What is IT controlling?

IT controlling is where key figures for projects, processes and systems come together. Consequently, IT controlling is closely linked to IT asset management and relies on its input. One of the main tasks of IT controlling is to determine and allocate all IT costs incurred. This includes, for example, costs for the use of hardware and software, services, support readiness and the distribution and allocation of costs according to the IT usage determined in IT asset management.

Cost transparency

With an optimized internal charging model (charge-back model), it is possible to say exactly who (department, division, cost center) is responsible for which costs of what IT services. Together with IT asset management, it is possible to assess whether the hardware and software provided is actually being used.

Cost savings

The principle of only having to pay for what is actually used motivates a company/authority to critically examine IT costs. If then only what is really needed is procured, IT costs can be reduced sustainably.

"Equity"

IT costs money.
